Mito Energy Walk & 5k
Supporting families coping with mito-related disease
The Minoa Fire Department joined the Syracuse community in supporting the MitoAction Energy Walk and 5k on Sunday, September 15, 2024. It was a beautiful day at Green Lakes State Park for the event.
The walk/run raised awareness for mitochondrial disease, a very rare disorder that occurs when structures that produce energy for a human cell malfunction. With this malady, the mitochondria are unable to completely burn food and oxygen to generate energy, which is essential for normal cell function.
Volunteers showed out to make a difference in the lives of patients and families. The fundraising helps MitoAction change the future of health for every mito patient. Energy Walk Syracuse, Hosted by the Payne family in honor of their daughter Caroline, has raised over $55,000 to bring awareness and support families affected by mitochondrial disease.
The event included:
• Musical entertainment
• Food and refreshments
• Unique raffle items
• Kids’ arts & crafts
• Team & individual awards
