Al Tompkins

The Minoa Fire Department proudly recognizes Al Tompkins, one of its most dedicated and constructive members as he transitions from Active status to Life Membership.
Joining the department in 1984, he has spent more than four decades strengthening our company through leadership, service, and steady commitment. He served as Chief from 1994–1995, guiding the department through important years of growth, and he played key roles on the fireground as lieutenant, captain, second assistant chief, and first deputy chief.
His influence extended well beyond operations: he served on the Board of Directors, acted as recording and corresponding secretary, and fulfilled the demanding role of treasurer from 2012–2023, where his thoughtful stewardship made a lasting difference in our financial health. He also shaped the department’s culture through his work on the by-law, Santa detail, and grievance committees, and through his dedication as co-chairman of Station 2. Perhaps most importantly, he invested in the future of the fire service by advising our junior members, offering guidance, encouragement, and an example of what it means to serve.
While he will no longer respond to calls, he remains a vital part of our family, and we are deeply grateful for the decades he has given to this Department and this community. We celebrate not only his achievements but the lasting impact of a life lived in service.
